Project Overview

Located within a conservation zone in Tunbridge Wells, the project involved the careful transformation of a former coach house and its surrounding outbuildings into a contemporary family home.

The original building was partially deconstructed — the central section was removed, leaving the two gable ends intact. Step Three then rebuilt the centre of the house in a style that remained true to the original character of the property, maintaining architectural continuity while meeting modern performance standards. A large, modern extension was also added to one end of the house, creating open-plan living space that complements the traditional form while introducing light and scale.

The property also included a listed barn with a conservation order, which was fully refurbished and repurposed as a pool house with additional office space — blending heritage preservation with practical, modern use.

This project exemplifies Step Three’s ability to deliver high-quality builds that respect historic context while providing contemporary functionality and long-term value.
